River Safari on the Rio Sarapiqui

In trying to cut out some of our driving time and found a hotel for the night in the small town of
Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. It is a place we had never been. It is located in the rain forest just 20 miles south of the Nicaraguan border with access to the San Juan river and the Rio Sarapiqui.

We are staying at the Hotel El Bambu in the middle of town, which was the perfect location for what we needed.

The hotel had a nice pool, great restaurant, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were basic but we really did not need much.

The hotel set up a river safari for us which was worth the trip. At the Rio Sarapiqui River we board a boat which took us on a 2 hour trip around the river.

It was very relaxing and we got to see lots of wild life.

For dinner we ate in the hotel restaurant which was very good. Afterward we watched the Super Bowl (in Spanish) from the hotel bar. Lots of fun. It is a great town.
