Grand Cayman known as "Culinary Capital of the Caribbean"

There is so many wonderful places to eat on this island it's hard to pick which ones to try. Prior to coming we checked trip advisor & Brasserie was rated  #1 on the island making it a must for us to try. One of the things that makes the Brasserie special is the catch of the day really was caught that day. They have their own fishing boats.
The food here was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed yet elegant.

One night we had dinner at Hemingways, the food has a Cuban flair. We seat outside which was pleasant and they had a really good jazz band playing.
I had walnut crusted snapper which was good but not much flavor.  It is considered gourmet & pricey but it didn't wow us. There are so many other places to choose from this is not be one I would come back to.

We were told Chicken! chicken! was a good place to eat in or takeout. Bits family owned & they fire cook the chickens in a wood oven. Everything is homemade fresh & very reasonably priced. We got take out for lunch & the potions were large enough for 2 lunches.

In the West end Ristorante Pappagallo is a wonderful place with really great Italian food. . The restaurant overlooks a lake which makes for a beautiful setting. The serve was excellent as well.

Guy Harvey's restaurant & Bar is downtown George Town which has waterfront dining overlooking the Harbour. The chef is French and the food is both French & Caribbean. We ate outside which no fault of the restaurant but the prier is under construction making it very loud & noisy. I had scallops saint Jacques, scallops with spinach & Bearnaise sauce which was excellent.
There are nightly specials here so check the paper, the night we were here $9.95 crab cake dinner.

In the west end we passed Tim buc tuu sign all you can eat pancakes for $5.00 and stopped for breakfast one morning. It was the only place we had breakfast out the whole time we were here and it was really good. It was so good our last night we ordered take out dinner from here. The food was really good & great prices. They do deliverer but not on Wednesdays and if eat there it's BYOB.
There are so many dining option on the island I think I will just have to return to try more.

Breakfast on our balcony overlooking the beautiful seven mile beach was still my favorite. The view never got old and will be missing it soon.

  1. It's no wonder that the Cayman Islands are considered natural wonders. Well, these islands are surrounded by nature, water, beaches and many scenic wonders. It offers a boundless capacity for visitors to enjoy this place as much as one can. No wonder, if we go there in the end of year. I am looking for the best Cayman bars, restaurants and sea side food places. Any help guys, which are the best places to visit there in a short break of one week or so?

  2. Denis,
There are so many to chose from,we really liked the Lighthouse. You eat out over the water, very pretty, and food is great. There are a couple of good fun beach bars, Tiki Beach, Calco Jacks, & Bamboo. Check the local paper for happy hour specials. Cracked Conch by the sea we did not eat there and wished we had. It is right on the ocean and beautiful sunsets. If you want really nice dining I would recommend upstairs at Kaibo. Food, atmosphere are outstanding. On Tuesday nights the restaurant Kaibo has a Caribbean buffet with the local band. Lots of fun. Both these place are on the outside of the island but have boat shuttles to take you there. Have a great time! Its a beautiful island with plenty to do.
