Swimming with the sting rays in Grand Caymans

One of the top 5 things to do here in Grand Cayman is a trip to sting ray city. We had wanted to do it but sitting on the beach at Rum point watching as 40 to 75 people piled on & off boats didn't really look like much fun. Plus w e heard when the cruise ships are in port there can be up to a 1,000 people at the small sand bar. Thanks but no thanks.

But then I saw a add  in one of the many magazines for Soto's Cruises , No crowds, intimate stingray city & coral garden snorkel.

Sunday no cruise ships I thought this could work and I am very happy we did. Soto's did a great job. There was only 20 of us and only 3 others boats at the sand bar.  It was really amazing how these huge rays just swim all around you. When we first got in George had a squid in his hand by his belly and a ray came up and sucked his stomach instead leaving a big hickey. Not a good way to start but a good story.
Sting ray city was created in the early 1900's as fisherman returning to port anchored in the calm water to clean their catch, putting the unused bait in the water which provided the rays with plenty of food. Now they stay getting feed regularly from all the tours.
The trip included  snorkeling the coral gardens which was just teaming with life. You think you were in a tropical aquarium., simply beautiful.

It was a great trip & glad we choose Soto's Cruises.
