Ecola State Park, Oregon

Moving down the Coast just before Cannon Beach is Ecola State Park ( mile 28).  It is a great place to spend a day with views of the Northern Coastline and Haystack Rock.

The park was named by Captain William Clark after the Chinook Indian word for whale, ekoli.

Lots of great hiking trails.

It was high 60's today which is warm for this time of year and many were enjoying a day on the beach.

Indian beach is very popular for surfing.

The park gives you a view of the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, the second lighthouse on the list.

Tillamook Rock Lighthouse or Terrible Tilly as it is called is no longer a working light house.

It got it's name Terrible Tilly because of so many lives lost during surveying the site, building, and later manning it. It was lit in 1881 and was decommissioned in 1957. It is now privately owned and now used as a columbarium, a place to store the ashes of the deceased. Kind of interesting.
