Shark Diving off Seal Island, Simon's Town Cape Town South Africa

Another of the things on our list to do in Capetown was to go shark diving. I know it sounds crazy to want to be put in a cage while a great white sharks swims by or comes at the cage but it also sounded very exciting and one of the few places you can do this. The weather just wasn't cooperating and the seas have not looked like we would want to be on a boat. By weeks end things were changing and we had 1 more day to either go or go home. I quickly did some research and found Apex Shark Expeditions which offered just a few passenger on board and was the team on discovery channel that filmed air jaws.  Perfect! Plus it was only about an hour away.
The boat left the dock before sunrise.

It was pretty cold but no wind and the seas were calm.

We went out to seal island in False Bay which is nothing more then a huge rock where hundreds of seals make their home.

As the seals leave the island making their way to Cape point the sharks are waiting.

This is where we come in, since the waters are filled with sharks coming to feed off the seals we simply need to get in the cage and see what swims by

The cage is lowered off the boat and attaches to the side.

Little fish smell in the water to attract the sharks closer.

Wet suites on.

Now its time to get into the cage and yes I was a little nerves but excited as well. While we are putting on the wet suites a large great white came right by the boat.

Wow and I am getting into this cage in the water.

The answer, yes!

It was very strange being in the cage and trying to position yourself so that no parts of you were outside the cage. You sort of bob around with the tide and the cage against the boat.

We were in the cage for about 30 minutes and a shark did come by but the water is cloudy so I didn't see it.
The water was cold but finally right before we got out a nice big great white shark come by, what a site.

Great trip!!!
I hope one day to do this again.
