34 Beaches in Saint-Martin/ St Maarten

Simpson Bay - Saba in the background
This winters escape from the cold is to the islands of Saint-Martin/ St Maarten & Anguilla. After our last visit to Saint Martin we knew we would return since the island has so much to offer in way of beaches, snorkeling, hiking, activities, fabulous food, and plenty of shopping. I am not a huge shopper but for those that are there is plenty.

What brings me here is the beaches, there are 34 and 12 snorkel sites. My goal is to hit all of them. We are staying on Simpson Bay, which is a long stretch of beach close to the airport. There are a few hotels & condo along the beach but you don't see many people which gives it a deserted feel. The views from the condo are wonderful, white sandy beach, waves crushing, sailboats, yachts, cruise ships going in & out of port, the island is Saba off to the distance, and beautiful sunsets. What more can you ask for?

The village of Simpson Bay has plenty of places to eat, drink, and shop which we have yet to explore.
Since it's our first day we wanted to do a little exploring and get a feel for the island once again. Off course that means I have to play navigator which is never a job I like or do well according to the driver. Our first stop was the village & beach of Grand-Case. The beach stretches the length of town and was great for a morning walk.

From there we went to the farthest point from where we are staying to the eastern beach of Anse Marcel. The radisson hotel is located there along with a marina, and a few restaurants. The beach is nice and well protected making it a great place to swim.

The rest of the day we spent at one of my favorite beaches in all of the Caribbean Friar's Bay. For me it has everything I want in a beach, no crowds, beautiful scenery, clear water, great snorkeling, friendly people, good walking beach, bar, & 2 restaurants. The Rastafarian restaurant serves up some great BBQ and host a full moon party which we will be here for later in the week.

  That's 4 beaches down 30 to go.
