4 Days to the Derby! Betting the horses

      Now I am not what you would consider to be a big gambler.  I enjoy going to the casinos now and then but what I really love to do is to go the races.  Again it’s not something I do often but certainly enjoy it when I am there. Part of the fact is I feel there is more involved in picking a horse to win than to sit in front of a slot machine hitting a button.  The minimum bet is only $2.00 with a race every 20 minutes making your money least a lot longer.

   There is a whole process for me in picking a horse. I get the racing forum and first look at all the names to see if any of them has any meaning to me. I consider the number they will be for that race, along with what the odds are.  After this I see what jockey is riding the horse, like I really know one from another but either way sometimes one stands out.  I also look at the horse’s last races to see how it’s been doing.  I pick a few horses I like based on this then head over to the paddock.  This is the most important part of the betting process for me looking over each of the horse before the race.  I do this as if I really have any idea what I am looking for. I have a tendency to pick the darker color horses if that means anything. Either way I watch each horse go by waiting for the little voice in my head to say” that’s the one, that horse is going to win.” It’s like a magic power I possess for picking a winning horse. Once all this is done I can than place my bet knowing I am going to win.  My husband’s approach is much simpler but I think less fun as he bets either the favorite or the same numbers.

The horses I have my eye on right now are;

Pants on Fire so far my favorite. This would be the first win for a female jockey as well, Anna Napravnik
Soldat
Dailed In
Watch me Go
