A day on a boat around isle Bastimentos

Our first official day in Bocas started with breakfast made by Jack. As part of our stay we get breakfast each morning made by Jack and served at the B & B Bahia del Sol.

It is a great way to get to know the other guest along with finding out what there is to do plus an excellent meal.

Jack had arranged a snorkel trip for 2 other couples and there was room for us as well. The weather was not looking so good, rain but the captain was sure it would clear up soon. Off we went for the day having really no idea what the trip had in store for us. The ride out started as a drizzle than the heavy stuff started coming.

Our captain Cristobal also known as Boy, made a pit stop at a local restaurant for us to get dry and wait for the rains to slow down a bit. In 100 percent humidity it’s hard to actually get dry so it became more of a drinking stop.

After a while the rain finally did stop and off to the isles of Cayos Zaptillas we went. Cayos Zaptillas are 2 uninhabited islands that are part of Bastimentos island National Marine Park. There is a large reef around the islands for snorkeling but waters were very rough due to the winds. Instead we enjoyed some beach time.

We enjoyed some beach time. Afterwards we headed back to the restaurant where a lobster lunch was waiting for us.

At this point it was late in the day and honestly I was ready to call it a day but the captain Boy had 2 more stops for us. The first was snorkeling. I was finally dry so the idea of getting wet again really didn’t sound appealing nor did the spot he stopped but we were here and I am not one to not do something so in I went. It was some of the most amazing colorful coral and sponges I have ever seen. It was worth the whole trip.

Captain Boy took us to dolphin bay just as the sun finally came out. It felt wonderful to feel the warm rays plus we got to see a few dolphins.

We got back just in time for a wonderful sunset.
