Quest for the Polar Bear

The sun is shining, very little snow, & temperature 25f which is very comfortable for us but for the Polar Bears this is not a good thing. This time of year temperatures should be as low as -10 with snow. The polar bears need these cold temperatures so the Hudson Bay freezes allowing them to be able to hunt seals to eat. The changing climate is causing a longer period of time that the Polar Bears go without food. The ice is melting earlier in the spring & freezing later each year. This is bad news for the bear population.
What can we do to help the bears? Help decrease our carbon output.
The ones we have seen thankfully are looking healthy.

This morning we saw 3, one walking along in the tidal flats, one out on the point, & one lying in the kelp by the water. We tried to find the 2 curious bears from yesterday figuring it would be easy to spot with a head covered in hot chocolate but no luck

We saw 4 more but non as close as our first day out. That was really something to remember.

They really are amazing creatures.

  1. What are the chances of seeing someone you know in Churchill? What company did you go with? We did Natural Habitat Adventures. We stayed at the Seaport Hotel and the Fort Garry in Winnipeg. Saw about the same number of bears. I just got an e-mail from our bus driver and she said that today there are many more moms and babies showing up in Churchill. We were a week early
    I guess. Sarah

Wow how crazy is that. Shame I didnt know you were there than. It was a great trip & loved seeing the bears. I have been still following some blogs & looks like it is getting colder with more bears wondering around.
