Dining in Cabo Matapalo, Costa Rica

The town of Cabo Matapalo is very secluded, with just a few eco-lodges, hotels, restaurants, and houses. There are no stores, banks, or gas stations, those things you find in the town of Puerto Jimenez which is a long drive depending on the season and requires a 4 wheel drive car.

We purchased all of our food in Puerto Jimenez for our total stay before arriving at the house since we did not know the distance of the restaurants in the area.

As it turned out we did have a few nice options for a night out.
Friday Night Martina's bar, restaurant Buena Esperanza is the place to be. All the locals come Friday night with their kids & dogs to socialize. Starting at 4:30pm there is a artisan market. We got there around 6:30pm and the place was packed, everyone chatting, drinking, and the kids running around playing.

They were busy in the kitchen cooking but the nights choices were not posted on the black board until 7:00pm.

Once they were up you could start ordering your meal.

I had the Fresh Tuna with sesame soy, wasabi beet puree & thai cole slaw

and George had the smoked pork chop with mashed potatoes and green beans. Both were excellent. I enjoyed chatting with the different people who live here and hearing their stories.

After dinner the families start to leave and the DJ plays music until the last person is ready to go home.
Great night!!

The only problem with going out at night is the driving, there are no street lights and the roads are very narrow and rocky.
A short walk from our house is Encanta La Vida lodge which serves lunch and dinner if you make a reservation.

Dinner is at 6:30pm and it is $25.00 which includes soup, dinner, and dessert. We arrived at 6:30pm and had a drink at the bar meeting the owner Brian along with another guy Van who lives there full time. At 7:00pm we were called to dinner. There were 10 of us eating and we all ate together. Once again it was fun hearing others adventures and stories. We are finding most people are from the west coast, mostly California. Another wonderful evening.

There are 2 other options for dinner at either Bosque Del Cabo or Lapa Rio's.
Lapa Rio's has wonder views and a great spot for sunset. The restaurant is expensive. We went for a martini at sunset.

The views were great, the martini not so. We asked for Gray Goose which they had but got vanilla vodka.

The best sun sets were the ones in bare feet on the beach in front of the house.

The rest of the time meals we cooked at home. It was relaxing and you never knew who may show up for dinner.
