Cape Perpetua Park & Yachats

One of my favorite areas so far on this trip has been Cape Perpetua, which is just 2 miles south of Yachats. There has been many beautiful locations along the coast but for some reason this spot just seem to capture it all.

There are hiking trails, tide pools, lava rock, beach, 500 year old spruce and a lookout point which is the highest in the Oregon coast.

We took the Giant Spruce Trail which is 1 mile one way to see the 500 year old Giant Sitka spruce tree. The hike was nice, quiet, just the sounds of our feet steps and the birds. The trees are just so tall.

Other parts of the trail is lush with huge ferns.

I am a bit fascinated with how the moss hangs from the trees. It is kind of eerie.

At the end of the trail there it stands for the last 500 years, imagine the stories it could tell.

Next we hiked Captain Cook Trail to the tide pools. The marine life there was so different then anything I have seen.

Purple Sea urchins, Giant green anemone, thousands of mussels, Ochre sea stars, acorn barnacles. I just loved the colors.
