Ancient Ales Luncheon Monk's Cafe

Over the years I have been too many events paring both food and wine together but yesterday was the first time I have been to a Beer and food paring. It was an Ancient Ales Luncheon at Monk’s Café in Philadelphia featuring the beers from Dogfish head.  Not only were we getting to taste these wonderful beers but we got to hear the stories behind each one from Dogfish head’s founder Sam Calagione and Professor Patrick McGovern with the University of Pennsylvania Museum.

The best beach bars

What are you favorite beach bars?

There are all sorts of list out there with what people think are the best beach bars. Fodors.com just came out with a list of their favorite beach bars scatted around the Caribbean.

One of my favorite beach bar made the list

Foxy's waterfront bar on Jost Van Dyke.
Come by boat, drop anchor, and float on over to this always happening bar.
Jost Van Dyke is one of my favorite islands in the BVI. Besides foxy's there are a few other bars to try.
One Love Bar & Grill and the Soggy Dollar are two you dont want to miss. If you go to the Soggy Dollar be sure to get one of their famous painkillers.

What are some of your favorite bars in the Caribbean.

National Margarita Day

I just learned that today is National Margarita Day.
I am not sure how this Day started or why today in the middle of winter. But since its here why not enjoy the tradition and make up so margarita's.
CHEERS!!

Perfect Margarita Recipe

  • 1 1/2 oz. Cuervo or 1800 gold tequila
  • 3/4 oz. Cointreau
  • 3/4 oz. Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 oz. lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. orange juice
  • 2 oz. sour mix
  • Lime garnish
If using salt, place in a shallow dish. Moisten the rim of a rocks glass with lime juice from your sliced lime garnish, then dip in salt. Fill the glass with ice; add tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau; and stir a few times until chilled, then add the splash of orange juice. Raise glass and toast!

A week of wonderful Beers!!

This week seems to be about the holidays and beer. Saturday we went to Monk’s Café in Philadelphia to try some of the wonderful beers they have on tap. We had heard about this place for a while and it’s rated one of the top places for beer. So off went. When we arrived we were a bit surprised at how small the place actually was. There is a small bar in the front with a few tables than another bar in the back also not very large. But all the different beers on tap and in bottles certainly made up for size.

Tonight we will be tasting some Italy wines.
First we are starting with Vigna del Sorbo Riserva 1988 a Chianti Classico
Than with dinner a 1988 Ornellaia and a 1990 Castello Dei Rampolla Sammarco.

For dinner Chef George is preparing Veal with mushrooms, wild mushrooms risotto,
and asparagus.
