Today we went in search of The Panamanian golden frog. It is a critically endangered toad and almost extinct. It has become a national symbol, appearing on state lottery tickets. As well part of the local mythology. It is thought that when the frog dies it turns to gold. It is believed that the frog brings good luck to those fortunate enough to see it. There is even a National Golden Frog Day on August 14.
In order to find this little creature we needed to go to the mountain area of El Valle de Anton. The best way to do this was with Pacific Adventures. They are location here at the hotel & arranged everything for us. We had 2 guides for the day Michell & Gabriel.
Not only do the provide you with the transportation but give information on the area you are seeing & history of the country you do no get when doing it on your own.
The town of El Valle de Anton is located on the site of an extinct volcano. It is the second largest volcanic crater in the world - 2 miles wide. It was created five million years ago when the volcano blew its top off.

We visited El Nispero Zoo which is not like any zoo in the states. The grounds are very pretty & are up close to the animals. All of which you can touch if you dare.

Due to climate changes this is one of the few places you will find the Golden Frog. By the way it's really a toad. I think I am already good luck, I am here in Panama.
Your visit to the zoo was awesome. I would have enjoyed that. Glad you found the Golden Frog.
