Fishing the Panama Canal & Gatun Lake for peacock bass

We made arrangements at Gamboa resort for a day of fishing. The trip took us up the  Panama Canal passing a few big ships making their way from the pacific to the Atlantic.  It was pretty cool going along side of them. The canal is surrounded by lush tropical forest.

Most of the day we fished in Gatun Lake off the canal for peacock bass.  It was very beautiful & peaceful.
We could hear the Howler monkeys through out the day.
How perfect for us George with a fishing line in the water & me listening to howlers, doesn't get much better.

The  great kiskadee also keep me fascinated as they tried to steal our bait each time we cast out our lines. They were successful a few times.

We  catch a few peacock bass but Alberto our guide got the biggest fish.

On the way back we trolled for tarpon but no luck. We had the boat for 6 hours so at some point I needed to use the bathroom. I wasn't sure exactly how that was going to work out but to my surprise there off the canal on land in the middle of no where was a port o potty. The second surprise was it wasn't too bad as port o potty's go.

Alberto then took us passed monkey island. This is one of the excursions offered by many tour operators. Monkey island is no longer an island, it does connect to the main land now  and there are only 3 Capuchin monkeys here.  A male & female with a baby. We saw only one.

It was a wonderful day & a great way to see the area surrounding the canal & Gatun Lake.
