Driving in Costa Rica is all part of the adventure

It was hard to leave this wonderful spot on top of the hill in Senderos De Paz, Manzanillo. We really enjoyed our stay here but it was time to move to the next location.

We are going just up the coast, 26 miles to Samara. Sounds easy right?

There are 3 kinds of roads in this area, paved (black) , unpaved (yellow)  which are gravel, dirt roads full of potholes, and trails (red) which is pretty much what you would think a trail is.

never know what is coming around the bend

A trail is a single lane, unpaved road full of rocks and holes.  Both unpaved roads and trails can take you across rivers

with lots of  twists and turns through areas you think you shouldn't be driving through at all.

The 26 miles to Samara is how the crow fly's, by car it takes 3 1/2 hours and we had to go on all 3 types of roads to get there. That combined with the fact there are no real street signs or names of roads in this country, it can be a challenge.

River crossing

Thankfully we had our GSP which has saved lots of arguments and the peace of mind insurance on the car.

tree fell but we had enough room to get around
Driving is just another part of the adventure of Costa Rica.

You never know what you may encounter along the way.
