The days start early in bushcamp, 5:30am/5:45am. Someone from camp comes around to each of the rooms with a morning greeting. While staying at Bilimungwe it is Jason who wishes us a Good Morning to start the day.
At 6:00am a light breakfast is served, coffee, tea, cereal, fruit, juice, muffins, hard boiled eggs, and our favorite toast grilled on an open fire.
At Bilimungwe breakfast was served around a fire pit next to an open field. Nothing like the smell of a fire, with a cup of coffee watching a group of Buffalo roaming in the bushes.
At 6:30am it is time to start you morning bush walk. Our guide while in Bilimungwe is Manda who is extremely knowledgeable about everything there is in the South Luangwa Valley.
We set out today right from camp along with a Zambian Scout and Mishek who is in training to be a guide.
During your walks you always walk in a single file, lead by the scout, then your guide, and Mishek bring up the rear.
Walking is a quiet, peaceful, and you can really take time to listen to all that is around you. It is very different from being in a jeep.
There were plenty of wild life around but the animals keep their distances. They are not all the interested in us.
The walks are about 3 to 4 hours with a stop along the way for some morning tea or coffee and some cookies.
It is very relaxing sitting there in the middle of this vast area filled with nature.
We arrive back at camp about 11:00am which is brunch time. Each day it brunch is different, serving lots of options to choose from, salads, quiches, hot food, fruit, and always something sweet for dessert.
The food at camp has been great. Before going people were asking me about the food and I really had no idea what it would be like. Everything has been delicious. The chefs are well trained and very creative with the different dishes served.
The next part of the day is for relaxing. It is a good time to sit in the shade, read,
for me catch up on my journal, take a nap,
or play some games.
One of the problems I had was there was always some visitors coming around the watering hole
that would capture my attention leaving me to forget whatever else I was doing.
3:00pm it is tea time. Everyone at camp comes to the main area for some tea or what ever beverage you like along with something yummy, like a bundt cake with orange glaze, homemade donuts, scones, or a pie. It is always different and freshly made. This is not the place to be on a diet.
After this wonderful snack it is now time to go out on the night game drive. The sun is starting to make its decent, it is getting a bit cooler, so many animals are out.
As the sun gets closer to setting we stop for Sundowners. It is a beautiful time of day. We stop along the river where the colors from the sun paint the sky with an array of different colors. We enjoy some wine and they have a little appetizer for us. Figs wrapped in bacon was tonight snack.
Once the sun has set we do some night spotting for the animals you wont see during the day plus cats on the prowl.
Once back in camp around 7:30/8:00pm it is time for dinner. It is hard to believe we could be hungry but we are, it most be all this fresh air.
Dinner is served at different locations around camp making each night special.
Tonight at Bilimungwe we ate under the stars on the lower deck.
The table is always beautiful set and the service is that of a 5 star restaurant. Everyone eats together which is nice time to get to know the other guests in camp, along with camp manager, Alex, and Manda. We share what we saw during the day on our walks and drives.
An after dinner night cap and its off to bed. Tomorrow will be another day fulled with lots of new things to see and experience.
