Since we love the beach so much we wanted to spend the end of the stay at a beach location. In doing some checking I found villas located at one of the best beaches here in bocas del Toro, red frog beach.
The place is called red frog resort which is a bit deceiving calling it a resort as it is only villas at the moment. If you know that in advance which we did you will have no issues.
The villa they put us in is huge, on top of the hill with lovely view of the ocean & canopy below. We come to enjoy bird watching over the last couple of years making this perfect for us.
Every morning while having our coffee we sit out on the porch and watch & listen us the birds fly around the trees in front of us.
Late afternoon they all return with the parrots chattering in the trees. Happy hour is bird hour here.
The other really nice treat is we have our own infinity pool. It's been a great way to cool off after our hikes or just relax float enjoying the views & sound of the ocean.
The villa is equipped with everything you could want, TV, AC, full kitchen, living room, 2 huge decks, grill, phone, great internet, & a washer & dryer.
I couldn't wait to put the washer to use after many days of hot hikes & no AC. There is something to be said for modern convenience, such as flashing toilet paper instead of putting in the waste basket or truly hot showers which stay on the whole time your under them. I certainly enjoy roughing it along with respecting conserving both energy & water but also appreciate What I am used to.
What attracted me here was not only the beach but the acres of rain forest that surround the villas. There are plenty of trails for hiking and we have seen lots of wild life.
There are 2 restaurants within the community, Punta Lava on the beach & Kayukos which remains me more of a mess hall. Kayukos is also where the actitives center and some nightly entertainment.
Breakfast is included and has been good. We had dinner one night at Punta Lava which was good.
Included with our stay is a cart golf or what they like to call a jungle cart. That makes it easy to get around and fun to drive. The roads are unfinished and very bumpy.
The one thing that is needed is a store of some sort. You have a huge kitchen but no place to get anything. In order to shop you need to take a water taxi to town, about 25 minutes & $5.00 to $10.00 per person depending on the time of day.
If you do not completely understand this giving in I can see where people would be unhappy. In Kayukos they do sell a few items you may need but not much.
Overall we have enjoyed our stay here very much and have been extremely comfortable. The views are fantastic!!
