Discovery Point Grand Cayman

Discovery Point Club was a wonderful place to stay on seven mile beach. All the Condo are ocean front. It was one of the few places that also had a pool.

Just off our beach here at discovery point was another wonderful place to snorkel. I went out everyday sometimes twice and found something new each time.  As soon as you put your face in the water there are fish all around.

Grand Cayman known as "Culinary Capital of the Caribbean"

There is so many wonderful places to eat on this island it's hard to pick which ones to try. Prior to coming we checked trip advisor & Brasserie was rated  #1 on the island making it a must for us to try. One of the things that makes the Brasserie special is the catch of the day really was caught that day. They have their own fishing boats.
The food here was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed yet elegant.

Governor's Beach Grand Cayman

Governors Beach is located in the middle of seven mile beach near the Ritz Carlton Resort. It's a great beach with picnic tables & nice sandy bottom for swimming.  It is also a short snorkel out to the reef here. It is amazing to see all the different types of fish with all the bright colors.

Cemetery Beach Grand Cayman

Cemetery Beach is located on the northern end of seven mile beach right at the cemetery.

It's a great spot to both swim & snorkel. We could walk here from the condo & snorkeled here a few times.

The East side of Grand Cayman

There are many different things to see & do around the island. While staying on the North side we really explored that area along with Bodden Town and the East side.
Bodden Town is the original capital of the Caymans. It's a cute town as all the houses are painted pinks, blue, and paste colors. The pirates Caves are here which is great for families. We did not go.
Just passed town is the Blow Holes. The spray can reach 15 ft. A local named Allen was very helpful giving us all sorts of information about the area.

Snorkeling around Grand Cayman

One of the reasons we came to the Cayman was to snorkel and we haven't been disappointed. There are many great spots all around the island but we are starting with the one just on the North & East side. The dock around Morritt's Totuga Club had tons of fish. Big schools of Tarpon and a huge barracuda. There was a time I would have swam away from a barracuda now I am chasing it down for a picture.

Swimming with the sting rays in Grand Caymans

One of the top 5 things to do here in Grand Cayman is a trip to sting ray city. We had wanted to do it but sitting on the beach at Rum point watching as 40 to 75 people piled on & off boats didn't really look like much fun. Plus w e heard when the cruise ships are in port there can be up to a 1,000 people at the small sand bar. Thanks but no thanks.

But then I saw a add  in one of the many magazines for Soto's Cruises , No crowds, intimate stingray city & coral garden snorkel.

Dining on the North & East side of Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is known for its culinary dinning experience & after trying a few I can understand why.  While staying in the north side we are trying those around the area. One fun place is right next door, Kaibo bar & grill serving delicious food right on the beach. Nothing better then eating with your toes in the sand. I had one of their famous dishes cayman crispy fried fish with coconut curry sauce served with rice n beans, corn on the cob, & mixed greens which was great. Tuesday nights they have a beach BBQ with live music making it the spot to be.
Another great spot on the East side is Tukka.  The chef is Australian combining down under taste with a Caribbean flair.

Bioluminescence Tour Grand Cayman

Just last week I saw the movie Life of Pi. There was a scene in it where the water around Pi lights up & a huge whale jumps out of the water glowing & sparkling with luminescence. That is type of sparkling glowing water which is found here in Grand Cayman at Bio Bay. It is one of the few places you can see what is known as bio- luminescence. It is something I really had no knowledge of but something you just have to experience while here.

The Blue Iguana - Grand Cayman Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park

Being the nature lover I am it always excites me when I can go in search of something. The Cayman Blue Iguana is the largest native land animal here and is the most endangered iguana on earth. Through the Blue Iguana recovery program more & more are being released back in the wild. At the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park there are 40 now wondering around the park making it a good place to go find one.

Cayman Kai - Grand Cayman

This time our journeys have brought us to the beautiful island of Grand Cayman.  We are staying the first half of the trip on the north side near Rum Point in an area known as Cayman Kai. There are no hotels on this side of the island only private homes, villas, & condos most of which you can rent. All of them are on the water was wonderful views. We are in a condo right on the beach.
