Ambergris Caye, Belize

Just a little about Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Ambergris Caye, Belize is a 15 minute flight from Belize city. The flight is a really beautiful as you get to fly over the reefs.

The first stop when you arrive is Willy's Bar for Belize national drink
Belikin Beer. It's on the dock next to the water taxi, which is the best form of transportation to get around from one place to another.

Journeys End Resort is located in the North end of the island on  50 acres of lush tropical gardens and beach. There are about 80 rooms and cabanas. It is a great place to relax and enjoy all the nature Belize has to offer.

This was ours a 3 bedroom cabana right on the beach. It was very comfortable.

Ambergris Caye is divide in two by the San Pedro River. There is a north end where Journeys end is located and the south end which is the town of San Pedro. When traveling from one end to another by foot, bike, or golf cart you need to take the small “ferry” across the river.
The ferry is a wood barge that they load up and pulls you across by hand with a rope. The cost was $5.00 round trip.
Town of San Perdo

Lamanai Maya Ruins.

Lamanai means the submerged crocodile and one of the most mystical sites in Belize. It is the only site in Belize that was continuously occupied from 1500 BC to the 19th century.

Queen Rat

My daughter was told by some of the local people of the village that they have the rats to eat. She was beside herself. Both her another women in our group went on a mini crusade about saving the rats. I am not sure they really eat the rats but either way it was an interesting listening to the two of them.

The island of  Caye Caulker is one of the most laid back islands we have ever been to. There are no cars, only bikes or golf carts.

The beautiful white sandy beaches here make it a great place to go really get away from it all. There are plenty to do here as well, fishing, snorkeling, diving, or spend a day in a hammock under a palm tree.

My dream job, paint shells and sell them on the beach.

Some of the wonders of the area.

  2. how quickly things change - there is a toll bridge over the cut now, and i think journey's end closed. some of the roads in town are paver stones rather than sand & there are a dozen higher end places to stay north of the cut now. luckily the 'feel' of SP is still the same, the water still amazing, and lamanai & hol chan are still the best activities. ps the condo i stay in is 1/2 block from wet willy's so now you know where i go. :)

  4. The Tranquility Bay Resort is an extraordinary spot for a Belize wedding trip, and you will be extraordinarily all around took care of from the minute you are met off the plane, taken to the vessel you will be made to feel exceptionally unique, and what could be more sentimental than being joined by skipping dolphins as you make the short intersection. belize resort
